ABR Project Spotlight: Just Win Today

ABR was proud to build the website for Just Win Today Foundation (JWT), a non-profit organization committed to empowering veterans in the Greater Philadelphia area and beyond.

The Foundation helps veterans find gainful employment, emergency housing, mentorship and community.

The project presented certain challenges; JWT is a small organization that previously had no website or internet presence. The staff was stretched thin, focused on their mission of delivering services to veterans in need, so they did not have a lot of time to devote to this project. They were a newly-formed non-profit, so we were building the site from the ground up, creating copy, sourcing images, working with the client on logo concepts, etc. Finally, perhaps the most challenging aspect to the project was that the site had several different purposes.

Understanding their purpose

First and foremost, JWT exists to serve veterans, so the site needed to showcase in a clear and straightforward way to access services—housing resources, employment, resume assistance, workshops, career coaching, counseling, etc.

Because many of the individuals accessing JWT’s services are in crisis and in need of urgent help, it was essential that the site be intuitive and easily navigable. We also know that a vast majority of website visitors are using mobile devices, so we made sure the site was mobile friendly. We created a design in which the resources were clearly displayed so that visitors could request assistance with ease. JWT also accepts referrals for services, so we needed to ensure that this option was available to visitors looking to refer a client.

Understanding their mission

Secondly, the site needed to convey the mission and work of JWT in order to generate funding and support from philanthropic, corporate, and government sources.

We made sure that JWT’s impact was articulated and conveyed effectively, and the site told the many success stories of how the organization has meaningfully helped veterans. In addition to funding support, JWT is also seeking volunteers and interns, so this option also needed to be part of the design and navigation features.

The Executive Director, Jerry Paldino, was pleased with the results:

I am sure there are thousands of people who claim to know how to develop a website. I am equally sure that there are few that can do the work like ABR. I know nothing about websites, yet our non-profit now has a website that looks perfect and professional thanks to ABR. Specifically, they were deft at understanding our goals and needs after only a few short meetings, and they were able to translate this into a reality through design, layout, navigation, images and copy. This was key because we did not have a lot of bandwidth to work on this and they really carried the ball forward for us.
— Jerry Paldino, Executive Director

Our approach with JWT is the same as it is with every client: We listen.

ABR knows that every business and organization is different and we prioritize understanding the unique needs and goals of each client. We take the time to learn at the beginning so that we can deliver a successful solution in the end.

Because our process involves listening, learning, and gathering content and image assets up front, the actual design/build process is intended to move smoothly and efficiently without constant effort from the client.

Jerry continues:

More than anything, ABR’s approach and caring way made us feel incredibly comfortable. We were complete novices at this and they were so helpful through every step. The entire team was calm, strategic, and supportive from start to finish and they enabled us to keep moving forward toward completion

We congratulate JWT on their new website, we salute them for the incredible work they do empowering veterans in need, and we wish them much success as they grow and expand their impact.
